Oh, goody!  The Sew, Mama, Sew blog is posting a month of quilting tutorials for February.  This is perfect timing for us.  Our little ballerina (age 10) and I are starting a sewing & quilting class this Thursday with a lady at our church.  I just love it when older women (we’re all older than someone!) practice [...]

We always have a lot of birds down here, with the barrier islands, many bays, bayous, and rivers, but we also get some Winter guests from the North.  Snowbirds that come down with the snowbirds.  To those of you who are missing your birds right now:  they’re doing fine; we’re taking good care of them!
I couldn’t [...]

I’ve uploaded a photo to a post titled A Gift for our Ballerina to show the final project hanging on her wall.
Here’s a peek:

Here’s our Method:

Hang frame on its own onto the wall

Put a nail, pin, tack, or screw into the wall to hold the top of the ribbon to the wall

Tape ribbon ends onto [...]

My birthday present from my man arrived last night.  I jumped up and down, which made the kids jump up and down.
My man didn’t jump up and down.  He’s cool, you know.
This morning, as soon as I possibly could sneak away from the unfinished household chores (“I need to go….uh, feed the goats, kids!”), I went out to feed [...]

Isn’t Gazelle the prettiest name for a needlework floor stand?  My Gazelle (the original), after 10 years of use, has gotten wobbly (the family manufacturer will likely take care of that – they were great in the past so I emailed them about this recent problem) .  Other than that, the stand is still gorgeous and wonderful to work [...]

Our little guy, who turned eight this month, had his first sleepover last weekend.  To help him feel at home (and remember his mama) while he was away, I made him a cozy blanket.  He chose the fabric:

Perfect.  A cowboy print for my tiny Cowboy.
I sewed the fabric print onto a chenille fabric backing, with batting in [...]

I thought today I would share some sites that I’ve collected on my Google Reader, a place where you can collect websites that you visit often.  You can then go to Google Reader instead of each individual website and see if there were any updates posted!  I love it!  Here are some of the sites [...]

A Gift for Our Ballerina

The Project du Jour (of the day) was to create this series of photos for our little ballerina.  I printed them out as 4×6 prints on my really cool portable photo printer, then framed them up in a frame I’ve had empty for much too long.  It’s ready for Daddy to hang on her bedroom wall tomorrow!
I surprised [...]

A Knitted Hat

From a basket of inspiration…

…from this cotton yarn, these bamboo needles, a bit of dark chocolate, and (much) guidance from a knitting friend…

…comes my first knitting project that involves more than one type of stitch in one color of yarn.
(yes, I was a scaredy-cat for so very long)
It helps to have an admirer peeking at me.  He thinks I [...]

Our American Gift

After months of dreaming (him), and dreading (us), today finally arrived for our 19-year-old nephew…

He is bound for the Navy.
Wasn’t it only a year ago that he was the little tyke in our wedding, crookedly holding the ring pillow as he walked down the aisle, straight to the groom his mama?  I think it was just [...]

Enjoying the Surf(ers)

Honest, I was just taking a photo of our littlest daughter enjoying the beach in Florida.

Just a mama taking a photo of her daughter, that’s all.  When, oops…

…oh, well, if we absolutely must have something else in our photos, why not surfers?
Why not, indeed.

Crewe de Spaniards

Here are a few more Mardi Gras ‘Crewe de Spaniards’ parade photos for you:

Our littlest gal caught a full basket of throws (and then some!).  Mardi Gras hint:  If you want to catch lots of great things, bring a little kid along with you.  They are popular with those throwing.

Notice the beads flying in the top [...]
