I enjoy all things in nature. For me, nature is God’s Great Cathedral. I see Him in everything natural, from baby’s little toes to the dark clouds on a stormy summer afternoon.
That’s one reason I love birds so much. Here are a few we’ve seen in the past week:
Carolina Chickadee (above)
I’m not sure what this one is This is a Yellow-rumped Warbler (above), according to the very smart birders at a Flickr Group on North American Birds . It’s a cutie, peeking at me like that! If you can identify it, please let me know. The children and I are creating a bird notebook (maybe something like this one) from our photos and drawings this year.

1. American Robin, 2. Cooper’s Hawk, 3. Blue Jay, 4. Laughing Gulls , 5. Unknown Northern Mockingbird – P.S. days later: oh, gracious, I have much to learn! Someone just told me that it is the State Bird of my Florida. Feeling a bit foolish for not recognizing the bird! Ask me about flowers, and I’m your gal. Birds? I’m such a newbie., 6. Ring-Billed Gull
Do you want to count birds along with me and a whole bunch of other people? Then join the Great Backyard Bird Count (actually, there is no “joining”, just count birds in one place for 15 minutes, click on the link, and fill in the form). The Great Backyard Bird Count is from February 15-18, 2008, so get counting!
Please leave a link if you photograph some of the birds you see, too. I would love to see them! And let me know if you think I have any of the bird names wrong. I’m no ornithologist.
