Our 4 year old took that photo of me recently. It’s one of very few of me. She is an insistent thing, so there I am, indulging my daughter for a moment. I immediately snatched the camera back, of course. I like to be behind it.
Some of the things that make me smile include teacups, yellow walls, sunlight, Starbucks’ White Chocolate Mocha, my Nikon, fabric, yarn, thread (let’s just say all textiles), a spontaneous family dance in the kitchen, a sketchpad & portable watercolor tray, my kayak, Gulf Coast beaches, organic gardening, unpredictable weather (let’s just say all things in nature), and plenty (plenty!) of free time to follow my whims.
I also love to be with my goats and chickens. This is April, Duchess and Flower.
I live a simple life with my family on a river in America that empties into the Gulf of Mexico just a few miles downstream.
Here is my man who can still dunk a basketball at 37.
Yeah, I know, that’s not a basketball. But I like that picture of him and I don’t particularly like sweaty baggy basketball shorts and tank tops. Ya know what I mean? We’ve been married 15 years, yipes. We like to say that since we’ve stuck it out this long, we may as well just keep going.
Besides, I still like him.
Here are our four children (ages 12, 10, 8 and 4 – boy, girl, boy, girl) who make me laugh out loud daily and who are the inspiration behind thousands of photos.
I like them, too.
This blog is about the things I find to be “just pure lovely.” Those words (just pure lovely) are taken from Philippians 4:8, a Bible verse, where we’re given the advice to think about things that are just and pure and lovely, among other things like those that are noble and true.
I really appreciate your visits to my blog. I really, really appreciate your comments. You encourage my scatter-brain to focus on the “just pure lovely” things in life. For that, I thank you.
p.s. I’m new to this blog (January 2008), but not really new to blogging. My blog site before this one – a texty blog, without pretty photos and as much creating – is located at Keeping the Home. Give it a look, if you like, but come here for what I’m up to these days.

[...] A Bit About Me [...]
April is beautiful!! Such a sweet and endearing face.
Hi Lori,
I just wanted to say that I think your pictures are just beautiful! What type of camera do you use?
I’m not one for knitting (just yet!), but I do make jewelry, and almost any other crafty thing that I can think of…or think I can make, rather than buy! So I can really relate to your need for time and freedom to pursue your heart’s desire!
Also, thanks so much for your contribution in Free Homeschool. I have found so many great resources thereby, as I just began homeschooling this year.
Best Regards,
Angelica E.
I’m loving the pictures, and the thoughts behind them.
